OUR FACULTY
The Faculty of Technical and Human Sciences of
Sapientia – Hungarian University of Transylvania is one of the most prestigious institutions of
higher education in the region. The teaching activity is carried out on the University
Campus located on a 27 ha territory located at the exit from Târgu-Mureş to Sighişoara
in Corunca.
In the 2008–2009 academic year more than 700
students started their studies in 8 fields of study under the guidance of 74 university
tutors.
The University started its activity in the 2001-2002
academic year, launching 5 specialties: pedagogy, informatics, mechatronics,
computer science and automation. In 2002 the university’s offer was extended with
further specialties: communication and horticultural engineering.
The University Campus and the new central building
offer infrastructural conditions of high standard. Students have 3 indoor
amphitheatres and almost 50 lecture rooms and fully equiped laboratories
(informatics, electronics, mecanics and electron microscopy). The building also
houses the administrative departments, academic departments and the university
library.
The faculty is equipped with optical fibre broadband
internet connection and wireless possibility as well. The faculty is
interconnected with the other three faculties of the university through
backbone network.
In order to support the theoretical and practical
studies of horticultural engineering students, the University Campus offers
adequate conditions placing the area around the building at their disposal.
The university library provides the information
base necessary for teaching and research activities, offering a collection of
more than 22,000 items, including specialized textbooks, magazines, newspapers
and CDs. Continuously developing its services and offer, the university library
is trying to provide students and lecturers access to the most recent
literature in their fields. The basic services offered by the library include
reference services, reading room, lending services, access to e-resources
(EBSCO, EISZ, MathSciNet) and offering information.
The services and facilities within the building
include a students’ canteen,
a coffee bar and a gymnasium.
One of the main objectives of the faculty’s strategic development is the
construction of a new building, which will enlarge the space for academic and
administrative activities. It will also offer space for a students’ hostel
